Outdoor Portraits

Outdoor Portraits

Saturday 20 July
The Hoe - 11:30am - 3 Hours
Plymouth Photography Group
Caleb Williams
This workshop will equip you with the skills & confidence to undertake portrait photography outdoors. You will learn best times of day to take natural light portraits, which lenses and camera settings to use & how to pose subjects in a flattering way in order to avoid glare and harsh shadows. You will learn about neutral and textured backgrounds, and techniques involving "wide apertures". Wide aperture portrait photography is a style many professional photographers use to create soft, dreamy backgrounds or "bokeh" effects while the main subject stays sharply in focus. Locations such as the Belvedere Wedding Cake and Plymouth Citadel will be used for this session. These places offer a mix of openness & shelter: they will allow us to incorporate sun, shade, and architectural elements into portraits. This will be a fun creative class, in a great setting.

I really enjoy these workshops. Kevin Hind is an excellent tutor/leader/expert. This particular event was marred by really dreadful weather and lack of light, but inspite of that I feel that I learned a lot albeit without taking anything I was pleased with but I now have the confidence to put that knowledge into practice.
