Location Portrait Photography Meetup

Location Portrait Photography Meetup

Sunday the 5th of December
Exeter Quay - 2.30 pm - 2 hours
Do you always take a portrait vertically? Do you always take a landscape horizontally? This meetup will focus on how we chose to compose a picture, specifically if we chose to take a photo in 'landscape' (horizontally orientated) or 'portrait' (vertically orientated). We'll think about how and when you might want to turn your camera on its side (or not). And how that choice can change the focus of the image and how we view a subject.

Christmas Photography Meetup

Christmas Photography Meetup

Sunday the 12th of December
Cathedral Green - 3:30 pm - 2 hours
Christmas lights, food, stalls, and shoppers! A chance for us to get creative street shots with a Christmas twist. The lights, people, and events at the Christmas market should give us plenty of good subject matter to craft some great festive pictures. We'll explore using long exposures with twilight street photography, and working with Christmas lights during the golden hour/twilight. There should also be plenty of interesting opportunities to get creative with depth of field and lights too.

Come along to our photo sessions to dust off your camera and get snap-happy with a professional photography instructor.
Brush up on your camera skills and learn new photography techniques whilst on a photo walk class with other local keen photographers!

We run two hour photography sessions based on a photography theme/technique/style and they take place in various locations across the region.
New to photography? We also run a popular 3 hour Beginners Guide to Photography Class once a month.
And once in a while we will run special niche 3 hour classes, for example, Astrophotography - so do subscribe to our newsletter to know when the next on is!

Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

Join the Exeter Photography Facebook Group here to share your photos after the session.

Our classes and photography sessions are limited to a max of 5 students - due to current COVID restrictions
We ask that everyone attending a meetup follows social distancing guidelines:

Stay home if you're sick.
Keep 2 metres away from others.
Don't make unnecessary physical contact with others. Avoid physical greetings, such as handshakes, hugs and kisses.
Wash your hands regularly with alcohol-based sanitiser.
Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze. Use a flexed elbow or a tissue; if you use a tissue, dispose of it immediately and appropriately.
REVIEWS
Tuition was very good. Lots of help and feedback. Not too much information but just the right amount for a beginner.

An enjoyable and very positive morning, despite the weather. Hamish presented new ways of embracing street photography. Nice to be part of a small group and to be able to share thoughts and ideas.

I am still buzzing from Saturday, it was a super relaxed group, all different abilities but we gelled and learnt from each other as well as our super Mentor, Hamish.

It was a nice an relaxed session with no pressure applied and there was acknowledgement at the start of the difference in the skills/experience within the group - without forcing everyone to 'do this' or to 'do that'. Hamish gave some good advice and worked with the members of the group thoughout, having started by moving from person to person to see what they were doing. Hamish helped with the hunting of specific photos by asking approaching people if they would mind walking into our frame, which helped with those who avoided walking into the scenes we were hoping from. Hamish very kindly reminded us that we were talking and not taking pictures on a couple of occasions, which was handy!
